Every successful individual knows that his or her achievement depends on a community of persons working together.
Founded in 2021 in Athens, GA, and Suffolk County, New York, the Society of Freedmen is dedicated to uniting Black Americans with ancestral ties to colonial America. Our mission is to realign legacy organizations, deepen the understanding of Freedmen and Black American history, and promote cultural, political, and social progress.
The Society of Freedmen was founded with a deep sense of purpose and a commitment to making a meaningful impact on the lives of Black Americans with ancestral ties to colonial America. Our motivations are rooted in the following principles:
1. Honoring Our Ancestors: We are driven by a profound respect for our ancestors who endured and overcame immense challenges. Their resilience and contributions to American history inspire us to preserve and celebrate their legacy.
2. Educating and Empowering: We believe that knowledge is power. By educating our members about the rich history of Black Americans, both during and after colonial America, we aim to empower them with the understanding and tools needed to navigate and shape the future.
3. Building a Strong Community: Our motivation stems from the desire to create a cohesive and supportive community. We strive to foster connections among members, encouraging collaboration and mutual support to strengthen the Freedmen community.
4. Advocating for Justice and Equality: We are committed to advocating for the rights and interests of Black Americans. Our motivation is fueled by the pursuit of justice, equality, and reparations, ensuring that our voices are heard and our needs are addressed.
5. Strategic Empowerment: We are motivated by the need to develop and implement effective strategies and tactics that will strengthen the Freedmen community. This includes focusing on economic empowerment, political engagement, and social cohesion to create lasting positive change.
6. Preserving Cultural Heritage: We are passionate about preserving and celebrating the unique cultural heritage of Black Americans. Our motivation is to ensure that future generations understand and appreciate their rich legacy, fostering a sense of pride and identity.
